About Minesweeper

Minesweeper is a deduction puzzle about what the visible numbers make certain. A number refers to all eight neighboring cells, including diagonals. Compare overlapping clues before revealing another square, and use flags to keep confirmed mine positions clear. The larger difficulty settings ask you to manage more information without turning uncertain guesses into false certainty.

Your goal: Reveal every cell that does not contain a mine.

Computers are supported. Phone orientation is a recommendation; rotation is never required.

The default Easy board works by touch with Flag mode. Medium and Hard boards benefit from landscape or a computer.

Minesweeper tips

  • Start with clues whose hidden neighbors exactly match their remaining mine count.
  • Compare adjacent numbered cells to narrow down which shared neighbors can contain mines.
  • On a phone, check whether Flag mode is on before touching a hidden cell.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating a suspected mine as confirmed and using that flag to justify more reveals.
  • Clicking a revealed number to open its neighbors before verifying the surrounding flags.

Questions about Minesweeper

Which difficulty settings are available?

Easy has a 9 by 9 board with 10 mines, Medium has 16 by 16 with 40 mines, and Hard has 30 by 16 with 99 mines.
