About 2048

2048 turns a small board into a planning puzzle. Each slide shifts every tile, so a useful merge can also move a tile you wanted to keep still. Build a tidy structure around your largest number, leave room for new tiles, and decide whether a short-term score gain is worth breaking that structure.

Your goal: Combine matching numbers to reach 2048, then keep growing your score until no moves remain.

  • Choose a corner for your largest tile and favor moves that keep it there.
  • Arrange neighboring tiles in descending values so small merges can feed larger ones.
  • Keep empty cells available; a full board leaves fewer ways to repair an awkward arrangement.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Moving your largest tile away from its corner just to collect a small merge.
  • Watching only the merging pair and overlooking where every other tile will land.

Does reaching 2048 end the game?

No. Reaching 2048 shows a message, and you can continue building larger tiles. The run ends when the board has no legal move.

Can I undo a move or return to my board later?

Undo reverses the most recent move once. The unfinished board is saved in this browser, so returning on the same browser can restore it.
