About Gomoku

Gomoku makes a simple goal demanding on a 15 by 15 board: connect a line before your opponent does. A strong move develops your position while limiting the other player's options. Keep track of threats in all four line directions, because a quiet diagonal can matter more than the obvious horizontal line beside your latest stone.

Your goal: Place five or more of your stones in one uninterrupted horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line.

Gomoku tips

  • Block an immediate opposing win before working on a slower plan of your own.
  • Build lines with room at both ends so the opponent has more than one threat to consider.
  • Check diagonals through a newly placed stone as carefully as rows and columns.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Extending a closed line that the opponent can stop with one obvious move.
  • Assuming the computer has no threat just because its latest move was away from yours.

Questions about Gomoku

Does a line longer than five count?

Yes. This version allows overlines and has no forbidden moves. Five or more connected stones wins.

Can I play against a friend?

Choose Local two-player to take turns on the same device. Basic AI is also available; it checks immediate wins and blocks before choosing a move.
